FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ

1. Who are the members of CFV and how many businesses does CFV represent?

The board of CFV includes businesses and lessees in the Mapunapuna area. We believe over a hundred businesses have lease contracts with CommonWealth REIT (formerly known as HRPT Properties Trust), the largest owner of industrial land on Oahu. We have received letters and telephone calls from scores of business owners worried about their lease renegotiations. We hope to expand our membership to include all the businesses with CommonWealth REIT (CWH) leases.

2. What other groups are affiliated with CFV?

We are not affiliated with any other organizations, but our members are long-time residents with extensive business associations. They have affiliations with other business and community organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Neighborhood Board and many others.

3. How is CFV financed?

We rely on donations from our members. With these funds, we have hired a part-time executive director to help expand our membership and manage our activities.

4. What does CFV intend to do to help the lessees?

We want our businesses to stay in business. That means seeking lease rents that are fair and reasonable, not ones that are based on speculative conditions. Before our local companies begin their negotiations to renew leases with CWH, we want to share information and resources so all of us can seek terms that are fair and reasonable.

5. Is CFV in discussion with CWH?

We have initiated contact with CWH representatives in teh past and will continue to reach out as we hope to establish an appropriate dialog with CWH.

6. What outcome is the most desired for CFV?

Our goal is to achieve fair and reasonable lease rents for our local businesses.

7. What can CFV do for you?

CFV's goal is to bring the business neighbors of Mapunapuna, Kalihi Kai and Sand Island together. As a member, you will have access to information concerning rent renegotiations between HRPT and other CFV members and in that regard an opportunity to achieve fair and reasonable rent under your own lease. In the long term, we envision CFV as a forum in which commercial and industrial lessees in these neighborhoods can come together to address common issues on an ongoing basis.

8. What can you do for CFV?

Join. Participate. If you have not done so already, please sign up on this website and complete our CFV survey. As Benjamin Franklin said, "We must hang together or surely we will all hang separately".
