Despite aggressive lobbying efforts by HRPT, Act 189 was passed by the 2009 Legislature.  It was not signed but permitted to pass into law by Governor Linda Lingle.  Shortly after it became law, HRPT filed a suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii seeking to declare the act unconstitutional.  Click here to see the developments in that suit.
